Mike Files Final Ground Report After Ground Gets Too Close
Mike reported that the ground had become close enough to identify, ending his long-standing inability to cover it responsibly.

Editor's note: This was Mike's final Sky Report. It was recovered from the aircraft's draft queue after the crash.
Mike reported Friday that the ground had become close enough to describe in detail, marking the first confirmed ground update in the history of the Sky Reports desk.
The change occurred near the end of a flight in Mike's small airplane, when the surface below stopped behaving like a distant pattern and began offering grass, dirt, runway edge, and other details that no longer required caution.
"The ground is much closer now," Mike wrote in the draft. "I can finally say things about it. I do not like the timing."
Ground Status
Mike said earlier reports had been limited by altitude, haze, window angle, and professional restraint, because from higher up the ground had appeared as a set of colors and shapes too small to name.
By the time this draft began, that problem was gone.
"There is grass," Mike wrote. "There is a line where the grass changes. There may be gravel. This is the most ground information I have ever had, and it is arriving fast."

The Sky Reports desk said the final draft shows Mike applying the same standards he used throughout his work, including his refusal to call the ground a field until it looked enough like one. He did not identify the line as a runway edge until it held still long enough to be useful.

Editors attempted to publish the full final file, but the transfer failed during processing. The system returned the same file-size error that appeared on earlier Mike archives, though the desk said this one is shorter.
