Sam Folds a Towel

Hello. My name is Sam.

Today I will explain folding a towel.

A towel is a cloth that helps water leave your body after a bath, a shower, or a sink mistake. Towels work hard. They spend their lives becoming wet and then waiting to become dry again.

When a towel is clean, it comes out of the dryer warm.

Warm laundry is one of the few times a machine gives you comfort without asking a follow-up question.

First, I hold the towel by two corners.

Corners are how a towel tells you where it begins. If you cannot find the corners, the towel becomes more like a soft map of a place nobody named.

I shake the towel once.

This is not because I am angry at the towel. It is because the towel has wrinkles, and wrinkles should be given a chance to leave before the folding starts.

Then I bring one side to the other side.

This makes the towel half as wide.

Half is when one thing agrees to become two equal ideas stacked together.

I smooth it with my hand. Smoothing is how you tell cloth, "Please calm down. We are nearly done."

Then I fold it again.

Now the towel is smaller. It has not lost any towel. It has only changed its shape so it can live in a closet with other towels.

Some people fold towels in thirds. Some people roll towels. Some people put towels on a shelf in a way that says they have watched a hotel be organized.

I fold mine in a regular way because the towel closet is not trying to impress a guest inspector.

After the towel is folded, I place it on the stack.

A stack is when several things agree to be one taller thing.

The stack should not lean. A leaning towel stack means the bottom towel is carrying a problem it did not choose.

When all the towels are folded, I carry them to the closet.

The closet is where clean towels wait for future water.

I put the towels on the shelf. Then I close the door.

Inside the closet, the towels are quiet.

This is how you know they are ready.
