Hello. My name is Sam.

Today I will explain the living room phone.

A living room is a room where people sit when they are not ready to go to bed but are finished being outside.

A phone is a small rectangle that contains messages, numbers, pictures, maps, and sometimes a person asking where you are.

When you hold a phone in the living room, you are in two places. Your body is in the living room. Your attention is visiting the phone.

This is why it is important to look up sometimes.

Looking up tells the room, "I still know you are here." Rooms appreciate this, especially living rooms, which have worked hard to gather everyone.

The phone may make a sound. The sound means something wants you. Not every sound deserves your whole life right away. Some sounds can wait until the conversation has finished crossing the couch.

If another person is talking, I lower the phone. This is a sign of respect. It also helps me hear the end of the sentence, where important pieces often live.

Sometimes I show someone something on my phone. This is called sharing. The phone becomes a tiny television for two people. If the person laughs, the sharing worked. If the person says, "Oh," the sharing may be over.

When I am done, I put the phone down.

The living room gets bigger again.

That is the living room phone. I hope you find your corner of the sky.
