Hello. My name is Sam.

Today I will explain a night out.

A night out is when you leave your house after the day has mostly ended. This can feel confusing because houses are where pajamas live.

At a night out, the room may be dark. Then it may have bright lights anyway. This is how some rooms tell you they are not tired.

There can be music. Music is sound that has organized itself. Sometimes the music is loud enough that your words must climb over it.

People sit at tables. People stand near tables. Some people walk through the room in special clothes because the room has given them a job to do.

If a performer is near you, you remain calm. A performer is a person who has agreed to be looked at professionally. You should not act surprised that the agreement is working.

I sit in my chair. The chair is lower than the noise but still helpful.

Someone may ask if you want another drink. This is a normal question at night. During the morning it would have a different tone.

I look around the room. There are lights, cups, friends, strangers, and places where coats have been trusted.

The night out teaches patience. Sometimes you wait for a song to end. Sometimes you wait for a person to come back from the restroom. Sometimes you wait for your face to know what expression it should use.

Eventually, you go home.

Going home is part of the night out. It is how the night learns you were serious.

Then you take off your shoes.

That is a night out. I hope you find your corner of the sky.
