I Put A $19,000 Espresso Machine On Credit And Now Coffee Has A Payment

The Bellwether Strada Home-Pro Espresso Station is a $19,000 espresso machine. I put it on my credit card because I wanted to know whether coffee could be good enough to justify a payment plan.

The answer is no, but the coffee is very good.

The machine is clearly built well. It heats quickly. The steam wand is strong. The shots come out thick, dark, and consistent. If I owned a cafe, I would be impressed. I do not own a cafe. I own a kitchen that now has one very serious corner.

The first problem is space. The machine takes up most of the counter. I had to move the toaster to a shelf and the microwave to a place where using it feels temporary. The water tank needs filling. The drip tray needs emptying. The grinder needs adjustment. Coffee used to be a drink. Now it is a small work shift.

The second problem is money.

Every morning I pull a shot and remember the balance. The espresso is better than anything I made before, but it is not $19,000 better. It cannot be. No beverage can do that much work. The cup is empty in three minutes and the payment remains.

I tried to make the purchase feel rational by drinking more espresso. This was a mistake. More espresso did not make the machine cheaper. It made me anxious and awake enough to check the statement again.

There are other costs. Beans matter now. Water matters. Cleaning tablets matter. A small rubber gasket became important to me against my will. When an item needs accessories before breakfast, I believe that should appear in the price.

Would I recommend the Bellwether Strada Home-Pro Espresso Station? If you have cash, counter space, and a reason to make cafe-quality espresso at home, maybe. If you are buying it on credit because you like coffee, no.

My old coffee maker made worse coffee, but it never asked me for money in July.
